The Show is the biggest and best agricultural and country show in Essex – it offers a wide variety of activities for the whole family. The day promises to thrill, entertain and educate visitors from far and wide – both those from the farming community and those from the town.
The Show is unique in that it is organised solely by dedicated members of the twelve Young Farmers Clubs that are scattered around our county that make up Essex Young Farmers. The age range is 16-26 years and members come from all walks of life not just farming families. The Show has evolved over the years and is strongly supported by the our sponsors from the local area and the agricultural industry.
The Essex Young Farmers Country Show has always maintained an agricultural theme and this year is no exception, the main agricultural dealers are here in force. A prize is given for the best large and best small trade stand. We have a large range of livestock classes. This year we have focused heavily on countryside issues and pursuits, and this is reflected in our impressive Forestry and Game Fair areas.
The main ring attractions are not to be missed and we have a busy timetable with Dingle Fingle the Clown, Big Petes Monster Trucks, Vintage tractors, Farming Through the Year, Young Farmer Events, The Hunt Parade and The Pony Club
For those wishing to ‘take in’ the charm and atmosphere of the show, do not miss the Craft Hall where our exhibitors will be demonstrating their skills and selling their beautiful handmade wares. Visitors should also make a bee-line for the Food Court and indulge themselves in the tasty delights to be found there. The Farmer’s market is home to an abundance of local produce including preserves, herbs, fruit juices, game and cheeses.
In the Forestry Area you can watch tree felling and see how coppicing is done. Look at the traditional crafts of wood turning and admire the beauty of the Percheron Horses hauling logs. For lovers of big noisy engines visit the Steam Area where as well as traction engines there are stationary engines and “The Steam Gallopers” better known as traditional merry-go-rounds.
A firm family favourite is the Heavy Horses pulling their drays and carts. Also popular is the Livestock Area where children can watch and learn from The Essex Bee Keepers, The Rabbit Club and the Poultry Club and Turkey Association. The Sheep Show takes a fun and informative look at various breeds of sheep, including a shearing demonstration showing how you get wool from the sheep’s back to a jumper to wear. Don’t miss “The Sheep Show Shuffle”. Yes dancing sheep! Children certainly will not be bored.
The Horticultural Tent is a new edition to the EYFC show. It gives all you green fingered show goers a chance to treat yourselves and to share tips and ideas. With stands offering a wide variety of plants and garden furniture there will be plenty to keep you intrigued along with everything else the show has to offer.
The Exhibition Hall is where Young Farmers come in to their own by showing off their abilities in cooking, drawing, painting, sewing and pretty much anything they can turn their hand to! This years theme is ‘The Seasons and Climate Change’ – a perfect opportunity for a bit of healthy competition between the 12 Essex Young Farmer clubs! Anyone wishing to find out how to join in on the fun of Essex Young Farmers should visit our Publicity Tent on the day to find out more.
With all the excitement of the Show, visitors may need a little time to relax and refresh themselves in the Tea Room, The Bar or at one of the Catering Greens.
