Hay hutch is the answer to mess on yards and in fields: Product review
“I have retired horses that live out as well as competition horses that are turned out for a break during the winter months. Once we have experienced a frost and there is very little nutritional value to any grass left in the field I always put hay or haylage out for them to eat.
I have always been frustrated by the amount of hay that is wasted; on windy days it get blown all over the place, it can get trodden into the mud and if it is raining it gets soaked and left uneaten. When the frosts start it get frozen and is not eaten and if it is not picked up it kills the grass underneath. I also find that even though the horses get along I have to put more than one pile out or the more dominant horse will chase the others away.
When I saw the hay-hutch I immediately thought it looked a very good idea and upon trying it out I wasn’t disappointed. Not only is it very easy to handle, it also solves all the problems outlined above.
One of my horses is a very suspicious type and I thought that he would be worried to eat from the hay hutch but he sniffed it once and immediately started eating from it. I was also pleased to find that all the horses were very happy to eat from the same hay-hutch.
I have noticed that in order to prevent horses being cooped up in their stables during the winter a lot of people with limited grazing now either have a small all-weather patch or turn out horses in their school during the winter months, and I would recommend the hay-hutch is also ideal to use in these situations.”
