Ahead of Septembers Orsett Show, we interview Angela Howe, who runs the Marriages Riding Club Pony of the Year competiton.

In 1987 it was decided that Marriage’s would run and sponsor a showing class, as a means to promote their range of quality horse feed – The Marriages Riding Club Pony of the year was born. The first year it was held, there were six qualifying classes, before a final was held in Essex, hosted by Finchingfield Riding Club. Over the years the competition gradually expanded to the size it is today, and there are now more than ten qualifying venues across Essex, spread all over the county hosting qualifiers which run from April to July.

This years regional final is to be held at The Orsett Show, which we can’t wait to watch. If you are going along, be sure to visit the Hooked on Horses tradestand!

Rhea Freeman investigates worming as part of horse management:

Worming is, perhaps, not the most exciting topic but it’s a necessary part of equine management. Many people have a traditional worming programme that they stick to which involves treating the horse in the winter for encysted small redworm larvae and bots, spring and autumn for tapeworm and treating during the summer months for round worm and large and small redworm. However, as Simon Wetherald from wormers-direct.co.uk explains, it doesn’t have to be exactly like this…
