The Royal Bath and West Show: More than just an Agricultural Show

The Royal Bath and West Show is guaranteed to entertain every member of your family – boosting something for every taste, from delicious food to pony club mounted games, from falconry displays to milking demonstrations. One thing that is for sure, you will have to get there early to fit every thing in!

Summer Half Term, 2nd- 5th June 2010

The Royal Bath & West Show at Shepton Mallet is a great celebration of the Countryside this June with lots in store for horse-lovers. From show jumping to Pony Club Mounted Games to qualifiers for the International Horse Show – there is something for everyone.

Show highlights include:

  • Horses – showing, show jumping and the Pony Club mounted games. This year the show is delighted to hold many qualifiers for The Royal International Horse Show and Horse of the Year Show, with the most popular qualifier being the Cuddy Supreme. Over the four days you’ll see In hand, Ridden and Driving Classes, as well as experience the ever popular Inter Hunt Relay that always provides thrills and spills.
  • Experience the working countryside and see Heavy Horses pulling logs in Woodlands and Wildlife. Heavy Horse features include Showing Classes on Wednesday and Thursday, Pairs Turnout Classes on the Friday and In-Hand, Harness Class and Ladies Cart Class on Saturday.
  • Countryside Arena – thrill to falconry displays, admire the discipline of gun dogs and cheer on your favourite in the terrier racing.   Alongside the arena is the Canoe Village where you can experience canoes, kayaks and much, much more
  • Shoeing & Wrought Ironwork – Watch the blacksmiths and farriers at work at the Forge on the traditional Village Green and take in the skills of this ancient craft handed down from father to son for generations
  • Premier Dog Show  – See 1500 happy, healthy dogs enjoying the thrills and excitement of our three day Premier Dog Show. This section is the place where you can find your favourite breed of dog ranging from the ever popular English Setter to the rarer Powlish lowland.
  • Ladies Day, on Thursday 3 June, is new to the Show for 2010. Fashion-conscious visitors will stand a chance to be crowned winner of the best hat competition or best dressed lady and walk away with a mystery VIP prize
  • 4 x 4 off road – Adrenaline junkies will have the chance to drive 4×4 off road vehicles in the most extreme off road experience at the Show to date
  • In the Imagineering Fair meet the team who are building The Bloodhound SSC, the world’s fastest car, which is set to be the first to top 1,000mph when it attempts the world land-speed record in 2011. Children will also be able to explore the creative possibilities of science, engineering and technology.
  • Farming for the Family – children can watch milking demonstrations, see piglets, lambs and calves and experience the fun of feeding a chicken and collecting an egg to cook and eat in the Farmhouse Kitchen
  • A chance to see the country’s finest livestock including cattle, pigs, goats, sheep and alpacas.  Visit one of the largest dog shows in the county.   At the ‘Fur and Feather’ zone, families can see small animals and birds such as rabbits and cavies, tame birds and poultry.
  • The country’s biggest cheese show. See and taste a staggering array of some of the UK’s finest cheeses and dairy produce and take in the artistry of the Cheese Sculptures – a brand new competition for 2010
  • A celebration of cider featuring the biggest cider competition in the country and the chance to take part in cider tasting with experts. In the pavilion you will find everything from advice on looking after apple trees to bird boxes for sale. Music from the Confederation Jazz Band as you relax in the orchard makes this experience extra special.
  • Food lovers can also explore the vast food halls where you can sample not only regional food but food from further afield both within and beyond the UK.

All about… the Royal Bath & West of England Society

The Society was founded in 1777 in Bath by a group of philanthropists led by Edmund Rack. The Society was formed with the aims of encouraging agriculture, arts, manufacture and commerce.
As the Society approaches its 233rd year it continues to deliver a wonderful mix of established traditional exhibits through to the latest energy technology and contemporary entertainment

The entertainment and features around the 242 acre site ensure enjoyment for every member of the family and include attractions that are spectacular to watch, educational, inspirational, “hands on” or just plain fun.
