The Hurstpierpoint College National Schools and Pony Club Jumping Championships at Hickstead on the 5th August 2010.
The Hurstpierpoint College National Schools and Pony Club Jumping Championships at Hickstead took place this weekend, and almost became a family affair for Toothill School which is based at Bingham in Nottingham.
Not only did the school take the Senior Schools title, team member Heather Gunn riding Capping Gino took the individual title just ahead of her sister, Stephanie, on Shiraz E – the team is also managed by Heather and Stephanie’s mother, Heather! The third member of the team, which had to jump off against Farlington School, Horsham, to clinch their first-time win, was Harriet Aram and MVF Surprise.
Seventy teams from as far away as Ireland and Yorkshire, contested the senior Championship, in which Farlington School came second and Millfield School, Somerset, third. Congratulations must also go to local team New Hall School, Essex, who got through the preliminary stages and jumped in the main ring.
The Junior Schools title went to the team of Francesca Sargent riding Belle Vue Royal Prince, Leah Moorman and Garraangrena Schofield and Ella Flanagan on Melody from Headington School, Oxford. Second was Millfield Prep School, Somerset and third Heathfield School, Ascot.
Olivia Sandford Wood with Shafts Montego Bay, from West Buckland School, Barnstaple in Devon, took the junior individual title.
West Warwickshire Pony Club, based at Bidford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, returned a zero score to take the Pony Club Championships. The team was Alex Benton on Bailey, Di Hemming and Cerrigethan Anwen, Jack Eaves riding TJM Henry De Reve and Katy Fletcher riding Tinkerbelle VII.
