Top showjumper Ellen Whitaker is celebrating after getting engaged to her actor boyfriend Henry Cavill last night on a romantic trip to Los Angeles.
Writing on her official website, 25-year-old Ellen revealed: ‘I couldn’t believe it when he asked me. I thought we were there to celebrate his birthday. It was such a surprise and I am so happy.’
The couple first met at Olympia in 2009. A date for the wedding is yet to be set
Henry, who is 28 on Thursday, called Whitaker’s father, Stephen, to ask his permission before getting down on one knee in a Hollywood hotel.
The Jersey-born actor, who will star as Superman in new film Man Of Steel next year, previously starred alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers in raunchy BBC drama The Tudors as Charles Brandon, King Henry VIII’s brother-in-law.
Ellen, 25, meanwhile is training hard with her horses to try to make the British team for the London Olympics next year.
