The February 2011 edition of Hooked on Horses magazine is now out
Our big interview this month is with Shelley Brooks of Tocas Rugs – here is a snippet of our interview, when Shelley talks about leaving a life in teh city behind to start her own business as a livery yard owner.
“It was scary as I left behind a good career in the city, and I started off with just two liveries, the yard was a repossession and so when we brought the property, it was very rundown, and needed a lot of work.”
“I lived the life of a Buddhist Monk in those early days!” Shelley added, “I couldn’t afford to hire help so I was doing all of the work myself. I remember coming in from the yard at night, and my feet would ache, and when I woke in the morning they would still be hurting from the day before!”
The yard steadily grew over time, and as the workload increased, Shelley was able to hire some help. From the word go, it has been very hands on and a family affair with Shelley’s parents and Barry always being there to lend a helping hand.
At this time, Shelley also took her BHS exams, qualifying her to teach. She also began training up her own horses…
We have also included all your favourite regular features, such as the events calendar, an update from the REMUS Horse Memorial Sanctuary in their new column, local news, month in pictures and also the all new Equestrian Services Directory.
