Thugs are said to have attacked new mother Rose, a six-year-old cob and her two-day-old foal, Socks, in their field by hitting Rose in the face, leaving a bump on her nose.
They attempted to then lead her and the foal onto the railway line into London Victoria from Rochford, but abandoned the horses a mile away in the early hours of Friday morning.
Cut tail and forelock
The thugs also cut off the mare’s tail and forelock, before doing the same to a four-year-old horse in the same field.
Police appeal
Police are appealing for information about the incident and would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time.
Anyone with information should call Rochford neighbourhood policing team on 0300 3334444 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

Perhaps someone should do the same to them!! C how they like it sick scum bags.
Totally agree with clare there!! Some people are really sick xx
The human race albiet a minority are absolute arseholes! You cant even leave our horses in our fields anymore where they should be safe to graze and chill. Its sickening that people can actually think about luring these trusting horses on to a railway line. =[ =[ I hope mare and foal recover from this ordeal.
better stiil put them to sleep
Easy to label this a ‘yobs’ at work but this is actually a much more serious crime that would indicate people with serious mental disorders. Those who harm, or seek to harm, animals frequently go on to harm other humans. These people need to be caught!
I will pray for the horses who were harmed. It’s a shame that the human race feels the need to be cruel and evil against God’s loving gift of love in horses. No wonder some horses don’t trust humans. I wouldn’t either. If I was there, I would do the same to them. An eye for an eye! Those precious babies don’t deserve that!!!!!
would love to put the b*****ds on the line myself if there caught
I agree with you Davina! I lived in the centre of Rochford for 18 years and saw the place changing as time went on. Definitely an element of unexplainable violence was apparent by the time I left. There are people there now who are very capable of harming animals, people, and each other for no reason other than for their own amusement. I do know that it’s not just in Rochford that it happens, and that it’s a widespread growing problem, but this article grabbed my attention. Much quieter and safer here in Central France! I hope those €^$@!(&% are caught and dealt with – unlikely, but possible if people are prepared to talk to the police.
ooh! sorry for the “rant” folks, but I feel better for it!
That’s disgusting .. What do they think ? There must be a screw loose somewhere !
I cried when I read this on the Echo website today. So so sick and worrying that there are people like this around!
apparently according to people who work with the rochford station who have been working with the police with their cctv cameras on the line that they managed to get the horses on the tracks but couldnt get them to stay obv and that people in the area are saying this is a family dispute with the gypsys. with who will have the foal ,
altho this is just what has been said so please no abusive comments if you feel this is wrong.
what in gods name are we coming to? theres something seriously wrong with these people, and the punishment must fit the crime …,but i bet they get a suspended sentence and a measly fine that they will pay beck at 50 pence a week… attacks on horses is becoming way too frequent and action needs taking against the perpetrators, it makes me sick to think of these poor defencless horses suffering at the hands of these barbarians.
